The Whistler Pine

Peak to Creekside Village

Peak to Creekside Village - April 4th 2017

The Whistler Pine, also known as the Whitebark Pine was added to the list of endangered species of Canada in 2010. The distinct shape is impossible to miss, but thousands of riders cruise on by each day without taking a moment to admire these amazing specimens. The tree also smell amazing… If you’ve ever gone tree riding in the sun after a slight melt the aroma is incredible.

This specific type of tree grows much slower than others, which is why it often gets out-grown and over crowded. Luckily, arborists have done their best to keep the last of the pines around by planting saplings in and around clusters of older trees to allow the younger ones to grow.

So, the next time you’re out riding w/ the squad, stop and enjoy these beauties. And, if you’re ever having a snack under the branches, put some crumbs in your hand and raise it up toward the sky. Say hello to Whiskey Jack for us :)
